World at War v1.3 Patch Released

Treyarch has announced today the release of the v1.3 patch for Call of Duty: World at War. Here's what they had to say about this incremental patch:

The CoD:WaW PC Patch 1.3 has released today. If you’re a console player, this really is irrelevant to you – but for all the PC fans, read on!

This patch is incremental, so you will be required to have Patch 1.2 installed in order to install 1.3. The most notable additions to this patch are the /record and /demo commands which allow you to record and view your MP matches for submission to tournaments, leagues, etc.

CoD6:MW2 Will Arrive in 2009!

During an Activision Blizzard earnings call earlier today, CFO Thomas Tippl announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released this holiday season. The game is under development at the company's Infinity Ward studio, the same place that developed the first Modern Warfare title. We really don't know any specifics about the game at this time, such as whether or not it's a direct sequel (or prequel?) to the first or if any of the characters from CoD4 will be returning. Hopefully we'll be seeing the game soon and can clear up these nagging questions. As the sequel to our 2007 Game of Year, we've got high hopes for this one!

Nightfire
In "Nightfire," players take to the streets of a war-ravaged Berlin with only the flames of the burning city to expose the enemy.

Station
"Station" offers a bombed out underground train station littered with hidden passageways and destroyed subway cars.

Knee Deep
"Knee Deep" takes place on the island of Peleliu in a once tranquil village turned chaotic Japanese command center.

Verrückt (Zombie Asylum)
The fan favorite 4-player co-op Nazi Zombies Bonus Mode returns with "Verrückt," a terrifying Zombie asylum featuring more weapons, perks via the addition of Perks-a-Cola machines, electroshock defenses and the endless zombie horde.

The team has been very quiet regarding details of our DLC until now, and we're so excited to let this content loose. DLC Map Pack #1 is due out in March of '09 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC platforms. More details are soon to come, so be sure to check out CallOfDuty.com for all the latest news and updates regarding CoD:WaW!

*** COD5 PC Patch 1.2 Audio + Mod Problems - Explained ***

JD_2020 (United Kingdom Josh Olin), Treyarch's Community Manager for CoD:WW, has made an official update over at the CoDHub on some of the post-patch 1.2 problems people are encountering. Read the official post below:

Hi all,

It is clear that some of you are experiencing problems with the 1.2 patch. First, we apologize for any additional inconvenience this has caused. After some time reviewing the feedback, it is clear there are two main issues.

Audio Problems:
A select number of Vista users are reporting that all sound in the game is no longer audible after patching to 1.2. We will be including a permanent solution in our 1.3 patch. In the mean time, a work-around fix has been discovered, and instructions are located at this post: www.callofduty.com/board/view...?f=29&t=101457

Mod Problems:
While HTTP Redirect is fixed (so you can download custom maps + mods from the web, in-game) it appears some mods may no longer be functional after patching to 1.2. At first glance this would appear to be a new bug, but after some digging we determined this problem is actually with the mods themselves, and here is why:

In the process of addressing issues for Patch 1.2, we had to add new DVARs to the game for development purposes. Modders, you know what we mean when we say DVARs. =) There is a hard limit to the number of server DVAR’s that can be used, for network latency (lag) reasons. So when you run a mod, the game DVAR’s load first, then the mod DVAR’s come second. If the additional mod DVARs exceed that hard limit, it will not load. That was the problem in a nutshell with today’s 1.2 compatibility. Since we added additional DVAR’s, the mods spilled over that max limit.

The solution for modders – use server DVAR’s sparingly. When possible, set client DVAR’s. There is no guarantee we won’t add more DVAR’s in the future as these are a core component to our development process, so you want to prune down your DVAR’s as much as possible to avoid future compatibility hassles. We support and maintain our mod tools – however, we are not able to maintain compatibility with mods, nor is this our responsibility. By definition, a mod is user-generated content and must conform to the technical limits of the game.

We have already begun work on a 1.3 patch which is slated to release this month as well. Along with /record, we will include a more permanent fix for the audio issues.

More update will follow.

Regards,
-JD

Hopefully this helps everyone out. I also hope that the new patch can make it out very soon.

Another year another new site.

The new look has come about mainly down to me tidying up the web hosting plus the old site was never getting any use. So I thought id jazz the site up with a new look.

Hopefully we can make use of it more.
